Five Products You Never Leave Home Without

Today on twitter I learnt about the five products that Makeup Guru Bobbi Brown never leaves home with out. The list goes like this - Mascara, Lip Gloss, Blush, Eyeliner and Concealer. Got me wondering what my fav five would be...

On most days five would be a stretch but if I really had to pick it would be ...

1. Bronzer ( Bobbi Brown)
2. Lipstick ( pinks / purples)
3. Mascara (Max Factor 2000 calorie)
4. Powder (Cover FX)
5. Concealer ( Three Custom Color / Jouer)

in that order. My mantra...when in hurry always reach for the bronzer.

What would be your five products that you never leave home without ? Do

you have a makeup mantra to share ?

My Super Good Hair Styling Week With Beachy Waves and The Fish Braid !

These past few days have been " awesome hair styling days" for me. My hair is continuing its dry streak but I've made many a hair style breakthroughs with it ! Things I could not be accomplished with regular smooth , silky hair has been did with a stack of hay on my head.

My first super breakthrough was fighting the straight line that my hair is. I got some major waves going on !!!! If you've been a regular reader you know about my hair woes. I am so not crafty with my hair. And as if that wasn't enough my hair is super stubborn and wont do anything but straight. I remember when I was in school , I paid $$$ ( three digits is a LOT on a student salary) to curl my then shoulder length hair at a salon. The lady cursed sweetly like hell. Three hours and two bottles of hairspray later I got out with a lot of waves but no curls. The waves vanished in less 2 days.

Also I am scared of a curling iron so any curling I'm doing is gonna be with a flat iron. This past week I tried my luck again with a new flat iron - The Hana Professional Flat Iron. I set the temperature between 230 and 302 , the latter one of which was recommended for fine hair. 450 was the setting recommended for my kinda hair - thick and healthy. But I did not want to heat my hair up so much.

The Way Its Done Around Here

This is how I went about it . First I divided my hair in two parts and then divided each of the halves into two sections. After pinning three of the four up, I started working on the first section. Taking two inch sections at a time , I twisted them lightly and then rolled the hair around the flat iron. Held it for 30 seconds and slowly pulled the iron out while still holding the curl on my other palm. And then I take the curl and lightly tug at it so it un-rolls (is that a word ?) and looks more natural.

Did you pay attention there ? Coz I said my hair CURLED !! Well, more like waves but its a huge start ! Boy, I was jumping up and down and detailed the whole saga on twitter. I am in love with this new iron. It came with both a pouch and a box. I love boxes because they are easy to store and you can pile things neatly on top of em. Pouches are great for travel though. I got it in blue but you pink lovers can get it in pink as well !

The next time I visit a salon to curl my hair, I plan on carrying the iron with me and asking my hairdresser to use it. You can do it too and may be get a good discount on the service ! Check the waves out in this picture. It was taken right after I did about three of four curls. Sorry I don't have a picture of what it looked like after I finished the whole stack.

FishBones Anyone ??

The second thing I did was to have my hair in a fishbone braid !! I've always wanted to try it. Seriously from my grade school days. My mom dint know how to do it and so I never learnt. But then Glamour had it in their June issue and I got right on it ! This is how it turned out. Guess I should have tightened it a bit more but my fingers were aching. I was tired after doing just one half and gave up on the other. Its tough doing mile long hair. But if you have super cute shoulder length hair - it will look fabulous !

Have you checked out Taaz lately ? They have so many more hairstyles ! Lot more wearable ones ! I uploaded a pic and picked out 15 hair styles which I'll print and take to the salon whenever it is that I plan on cutting. You should try it ! It also satisfied my blond and brunette hair lemmings. Seriously I don't look so bad as a dirty blond or a brunette ( I keep saying that to myself)
