NYFW SS2010 - Trend It : The Messy Wash Of Color
As the NYFW madness continues in New York, I have been working OT trying to gather inspiration from all the brilliant runway looks ! We did a lot of hair posts on AIMB covering several runway hairstyles with detailed instructions on how to do get the look in real life. You can check them all out here.
In the Trend It Series, I will be writing about several trends that were featured this year on the NYFW SS2010 ramps that could be done everyday to add some spunk to our monotonous make up routines.
The first in the series is from the Yigal Azrouë Show.
At the Yigal Azrouë Show, the models sported a clean face with messy black shadow on their eyes. Makeup for this show was by Bobbi Brown. Check out the model pictures and the face chart from the show below. The only color apart from a natural clean foundation is on the eyes.
The messy trend is here to stay. Its easy, there are no rules, edgy without being overly dramatic. I cant wait to bring out my boring gray sweaters and pair them with this messy, rebellious look. Though black will be most gorgeous, I plan on doing this with a bunch of dark shades like dark green, deep blue and purple. They all will look equally edgy.
Skin: Hydrating Face Cream ($50), Hydrating Eye Cream ($45), Foundation Stick ($40), Creamy Concealer ($22), Corrector ($22)
Eyes: Charcoal Eye Shadow ($20) smudged out and applied to lower lash line; Extreme Party Mascara ($22) applied to top and bottom lashes
Cheeks: Natural
Lips: Touch of Lip Balm SPF 15 ($17)
Brows: Clear Natural Brow Shaper ($19)
Step By Step Tutorial
1. Apply concealer all over the lids and do the brows
2. Using your ring finger dab the shadow on the lid. Stop just below the crease. Avoid inner corner. The most concentrated part of the color is just above the lashes. Fade it out using your finger o a brush as it moves towards the crease.
I used Bobbi Brown Metallic Eyeshadow - bash.
3. Using a thin angled eyeliner brush, line the lower lash line fading the color towards the inner corner.
4. Curl your lashes. Apply mascara.

NYFW SS2010 - The Rodarte Show : Hair Trend Report
The look is edgy and daring, yet natural, with hair pinned away from the face in a thin veil of black wool. Hair is matte, roughed-up and textured, and raked back into a braid-like cascade.
Get the Look/Step-by-Step
• Step 1: Dampen hair with water and prep with Aveda Phomollient™ Styling Foam to add volume. Scrunch hair with fingers while blow-drying.
• Step 2: Sprinkle Aveda Pure Abundance™ Hair Potion generously on hair (using most of the bottle), working in layers, to create matte, roughed-up texture throughout. Massage product into the hair and scalp with fingers.
• Step 3: Once Aveda Pure Abundance™ Hair Potion is worked in, scrunch and twist hair with fingers while blowing-drying. Spray hair liberally with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray for workable hold.
• Step 4: Twist the sides of hair back and secure at ear-level with black hair pins.
• Step 5: Prepare a piece of natural black wool by spreading it out with fingers to create a thin veil. Beginning across the top of the head, a couple of inches from the hairline, spread the wool out delicately, pinning it securely in place. Continue draping the organic wool over hair to ends, securing in place with pins.
• Step 6: Twirl the wool around the ends and tie into a knot, creating the illusion of the end of a ponytail. Spray thoroughly with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray to hold the look in place.

They were inspired by the work of photographer, Edward Curtis, who captured stunning images of the Native American peoples. They were also moved by the idea of a young girl from the country who wants to be sophisticated but doesn’t have much, so she twists a thin veil of black wool stylishly through her hair. The netting of black wool echoes the collection’s knits and textures. The look is raw, hard, and organic.”
Q: How could a woman achieve this look on her own?
“This look can be worn with or without the black netting, and can be striking for evening wear. Begin by prepping wet hair with Aveda Phomollient™ Styling Foam and blow-drying loosely with fingers. This is how it can be worn in real life, without the black net, I guess. Its something I have tried to do several times but it takes way too much product plus I think I wasn't using the right products. I am stoked to see it here !
