It takes someone with a big personality to make big things happen, and that Bette Midler has and has done.

Amanda McBloom’s “The Rose”, made most famous by Bette Midler, is a great example of a verse-only song. The second half of the melodyalbum-the-rose

starts on a Imaj7 chord, offering a beautiful dissonance that needs resolution. The melody winds its way upward, creating a tension that resolves by downward toward the end.

The verse-only format, as well as the verse-refrain plan, offer really interesting alternatives to the verse-chorus design. But no matter which you choose, the job is always to present musical elements that need resolution, and then… resolve them. That process of tension-release is what keeps listeners hooked on y our song.

Bette Midler has advised Jennifer Aniston to date a racing driver.

The 'Wind Beneath My Wings' singer is keen for the former 'Friends' star to find love and has drawn up a list of characteristics her new man must have.

She said: "She needs an exciting guy, like a race-car driver. I think she needs somebody who cherishes her, but also somebody who's going to give her a run for her money. "She should find somebody who is really hot, who's not in show business. Somebody with a lot of money, and she should live the large life and forget about these a**holes
She's a great girl. She's got everything going for her." Bette thinks Jennifer has already met her perfect man - Vince Vaughn, who she dated following her split from ex-husband Brad Pitt in 2005.

She said: "I actually thought Vince Vaughn was great. He's hilarious, he's good-looking. I mean, I thought he had it all. I don't really know them, but I like them, I like to watch them, I enjoy them."

However, Bette wasn't as keen on Jennifer's on-off boyfriend John Mayer, who she finally split with in March. She revealed to People magazine: "Well, he's a good-looking guy. I've got to say, I watched it for awhile, but I have no opinion. I just read a few of the blogs."

Show Description:

The procession of stars that make the desert oasis home continues. The newest addition to the musical superstars in Las Vegas shows is Bette Midler. One of the most celebrated singers of the past thirty years, the Las Vegas Bette Midler show will be filling the hole left by Celine Dion's departure at the end of 2007. She will be trading on and off with Elton John, as Caesar Palace shows continue to be some of the hottest tickets in the city.

And much like her counterpart, Elton John, Bette Milder in concert has long been famous for outrageous antics and over the top performances, so it's only fitting that they will be sharing the bill at the forefront of Caesar Palace shows. Bette Midler Las Vegas will be much like recent Bette Midler concerts, with show stopping numbers, complete with backing band and Midler's semi-famous backup singers, the Harlettes. Her musicians and dancers have often used Bette Midler concerts as the first step on the stairway to fame - in fact, she will be competing with her former piano player, Barry Manilow, for Las Vegas tourist dollars.

Since gaining fame in the early 70s, Bette Midler tickets have always been announced to great anticipation. And her new home will be no different, though the greater production values and significant theater will run them upwards of $100.

But Bette Midler concerts have never disappointed, and the Las Vegas Bette Midler shows will be no different. Beginning in February 2008, you too can see what Midler can bring to Sin City. Consequent press releases have promised 'plenty of girls, gags and guffaws, her incomparable humor, the best song catalogue in American music and her fabulous 'Kiss My Brass' section.'

Anyone who has attended Bette Midler concerts in the past will find her new digs at Caesars Palace to be a perfect setting for her untamed performances. Bette Midler Las Vegas shows will run five nights a week - excluding Mondays and Thursdays - at 7:30 pm. Be sure to check out the Caesars Palace seating chart prior to purchasing your tickets.

Bette Midler has been no stranger to giant stages - she made her Broadway debut in the original production of "Fiddler on the Roof." She went on to further popularity in the city in the 70s, as she gained recognition for touring many of New York's bathhouses, earning her a strong fan base with the burgeoning gay community of the time. She continues to win over new fans each year, and Bette Midler Las Vegas will only add to her significant popularity.

Winner of a special Tony Award in 1974, Midler's heart is clearly in New York - her Broadway shows and special concerts have generated millions of dollars - but Vegas has long been famous for appropriating other city's reference points, so she should have no problem adding herself to the famed list of performers in Caesars Palace shows.

Not only a talented singer, Midler has made her way into cinematic history, as her resume includes Oscar nominations for her performances in 'For the Boys' and 'The Rose'. "Wind Beneath My Wings" brought her the 1989 Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, her third such award. The list also includes 1980's Best Pop Vocal Performance Female - for 'The Rose" - and 1973's Best New Artist. Many of the songs found in Bette Midler movies are featured in the Bette Midler in Las Vegas show.

Bette Midler saying
Bette Midler actress and singer
Object of our affection: Bette Midler, actress/singer.

- The Divine Miss M has been a woman we love for some time, ever since she started out singing in a New York City bathhouse back in the 70's. She was also in the original Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof, and won a special Tony Award in 1974 for "adding luster to the Broadway season".

- A successful recording career and touring act followed, and she broke through in a big way on the big screen with her first lead film role, in The Rose, earning her an Academy Award nomination and two Golden Globes.

- Her next movie, Jinxed, did just that to her in Hollywood, but she had a major comeback in the late 80's with such crowd-pleasers as Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Ruthless People and Beaches (featuring her hit single "Wind Beneath My Wings", one of her four Grammy Award wins), capped off by her second Oscar nomination for her pet project, For the Boys, in 1991 (which earned her another Golden Globe).

- She has won three Emmy Awards for her variety specials and her appearance on the final episode of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson; she was also nominated for her Mama Rose in the TV version of Gypsy (which earned her yet another Golden Globe).

- Recently, she has returned to live performing, headlining The Showgirl Must Go On for the next two years at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas; she will also be seen, in the role of the Countess, in the remake of The Women, due later this year.the Bette Midler

Bette Midler – Jackpot: The Best Bette
2008, Atlantic/Rhino Records

Bette Midler is a singer, actress and comedienne who has a distinguished 43 year career is show business. Stating out as a movie extra in 1965 (Hawaii, released in 1966), Bette quickly found her way to New York City. After playing in a pair of off-Broadway shows simultaneously in 1965, Bette found herself on The Great White Way as Tzeitel in Fiddler on The Roof in 1966 (a role she would play until 1969). She began performing in bathhouses in New York City in the early 1970’s. Her accompanist for those early gigs was none other than Barry Manilow. From these early beginnings sprouted a career that has seen Bette on Broadway, television and the silver screen. She has toured the world several times over, won four Grammy Awards, four Golden Globes, three Emmys and a Tony Award. Ms. Midler has also been nominated for two Oscars and currently headlines in Las Vegas. The Divine Miss M has earned her pedigree and status in the industry. 2008’s Jackpot: The Best Bette is the latest compilation to touch on highlights from Bette Midler’s career. While full of its highs and lows, Midler has never been anything but the consummate entertainer. Her voice migrates easily from jazz to pop to rock and roll, and Midler can sell a song like nobody since Sinatra.

Bette Midler has always been very at home with the whole Las Vegas small orchestral jazz/early rock and roll style profligated by the likes of Louis Prima, Bobby Darin and Sinatra; this is aptly reflected on Jackpot: The Best Bette. In The Mood shows Midler in her comfort zone with a first class jazz arrangement. As with every song Midler places her own personal stamp on this rendition with a campy, sassy flair. This Ole House is a little different than what you might normally expect from Midler. It’s one of those seminal songs from country music that seems to work well in any era and in a multitude of styles. Midler’s rendition is faithful and melancholy and full of life.

Midler has fun camping it up on The Rolling Stones’ Beast Of Burden. Here we see the wanton side of Midler’s schtick, channeling her inner Janis Joplin. The Rose is Bette Midler’s signature song and accounts for one of her four Grammy Awards. The song is as beautiful and poignant as it was 20 years ago. The same goes for The Wind Beneath My Wings. There are certain songs that once they’ve been done covering them is a pointless exercise. Midler owns these two songs in ways no one else ever can. Other highlights include The Glory Of Love (the jazz standard, not the Chicago song),Hello In There, From A Distance and her Andrews Sisters inspired take on Boogie Woogie Bugle-Boy.

The music business doesn’t encourage performers like Bette Midler anymore. Midler cut her performance teeth the old fashioned way. She worked her tail off from the ground up, along the way developing performance skills that stand up alongside her incredibly talented voice. There has never been many in music, movies or television who could match Midler’s talent and versatility, but she may be the last of the great show people. Folks like Audra McDonald, Taye Diggs, John Lithgow and Tim Curry can play to the same crowds. Each has shown the ability to own a crowd in a performance as Midler does, but there’s no one in showbiz who can do it night in and night out like Bette Midler. If you’re a new acquaintance, Jackpot: The Best Bette is a great chance to get to know The Divine Miss M. If you’re an old friend this is a great collection of memories. Either Way, Jackpot: The Best Bette is required listening for anyone who wants to learn the art of selling a song.
